Overview
The Taskmaster of Ninovacia (Working Title) is the first installment in a (almost urban) fantasy fiction story about an Ironkin mercenary making her way through foreign lands, trying to find a home. I have started writing this story in April 2025, finishing the first draft within a couple of months. Draft 1 of the first installment has been finished at 19k words.
This series does not have a planned final word count, I will write as I go along so I largely have no plans. But for the first installment I plan to maintain the final word count roughly as I write Draft 2.
Plot Description
Exiled from her home, strapped for money, and with nowhere to go, Brathis settles for a steady career of a mercenary in a city she is less than welcome in. Figuring she could just raise some more gold before she can move somewhere more favorable, the Ironkin kept her head down and avoided making a big scene. However, this uneasy state of living is now at risk.
With a rival mercenary taking all her opportunities, a vengeful gang that has it out for her, and a populace that takes every chance to spit in her face, Brathis has quite a lot of hurdles in front of her. But if she was known for anything…
She always got the job done.
Characters
Brathis
Brathis is an Ironkin[citation pending] mercenary. She is about 6’2” in height, her body composed mainly of wood, with a few select areas where steel was used.1
Her country of origin is unknown. She has a less than warm relationship to the people in Ninovacia.
Wifidia
Wifidia is a middle aged Drakken barkeeper who works at the Three Suns Inn. She is 6’0” in height and has red scales with short, straight neck spines.
She is native to the city, and is one of the few people who are friends with Brathis.
